Gulargambone (including Armatree)
Small and attractive rural service centre.
Gulargambone is a small country service centre of some 500 people on the Castlereagh River and the Castlereagh Highway, 50 km north of Gilgandra, 526 km north-west of Sydney and 225 m above sea-level. The surrounding area is given over to farming and grazing.

Once occupied by the Wiradjuri people, the 'Galargambone' run was taken up by George Tailby around 1840. The 1841 census revealed two men on the property, probably a shepherd and an overseer. Other graziers followed, including William Skulthorpe who had 50 acres at the confluence of the Castlereagh River and Gulargambone Creek. This site was surveyed in 1866 and later subdivided. It was gazetted as the village of Gulargambone in 1883. The Gulargambone Show is in May.
